Kuşadası is a large resort town on
Turkey's Aegean coast, and the center of the seaside district of the same name within
Aydın Province. Kuşadası is 95 km (59 mi) south of İzmir, and about 60 km (37 mi)
from Aydın. The municipality's primary industry is tourism.
The name Kuşadası comes from the Turkish words kuş (bird) and ada (island), as the island has the shape of a bird's head (when seen from the sea). It was known as
Ephesus Neopolis during
the Byzantine era, and later as Scala Nova or Scala Nuova under the Genoese and Venetians. Kuş Adası was adopted in its place at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, the citizens of Kuşadası often shorten the town's name to Ada.
Kuşadası has become a popular holiday resort, especially for visitors from
Northern and Western Europe. It has about 50,000 residents, although that grows significantly during the high season months of May to October. There are 2 major international airports near Kusadasi. The first one is Izmir International Airport (ADB) which is 80 kms away from Kusadasi and the other one is
Bodrum Airport (BJV) which is 130 km from Kusadasi. You can
visit Kusadasi by cruise ships or you can take a ferry from
Greek island Samos to Kusadasi. There are 2 ferries everyday between Samos and Kusadasi during high season; 08:30 in the morning and 17:00 in the afternoon. Schedules are subject to change due to seasonal, weather and sea conditions. Get clear information about times before making your schedule.
